CORD
Corps Of Recovery Discovery
MISSION STATEMENT: The Corps Of Recovery Discovery program is designed to break the cycle of homelessness by utilization of a seamless continuum of health care treatment services. This program provides veterans with an opportunity to change their homeless lifestyle through the development of skills, personal growth, recovery, self-reliance, productivity, residential stability, and community involvement.
CORD is a transitional housing program for homeless veterans. The program is a culmination of a cooperative effort between the Walla Walla Veterans Administration Medical Center, the Walla Walla Housing Authority and Valley Residential Services.
Many other groups and agencies have contributed to the programs success over the years including the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs, Blue Mountain Action Council, the American Legion Auxiliary 12th District, and local Alcoholics Anonymous / Narcotics Anonymous groups.
The CORD program consists of five duplexes and one house in Walla Walla and College Place. The program has a capacity for 44 veterans. In addition to the 6 residences, the program has access to a full size shop/garage where residents can work on vehicles or do woodworking and metalworking projects.
Opening in 1997, the program is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness among veterans through a long term focus on vocational training, increased living skills, and setting attainable future goals.
